Insect farming to improve sustainability in the agri-food sector: the FLIES4VALUE project

27 July 2021 - FLIES4VALUE, a POR-FESR Emilia-Romagna project, aims to offer an economic, efficient, competitive, and sustainable circular economy system where scavenger insects, the black soldier fly larvae, are exploited as efficient bioconverters to enhance by-products from regional agri-food industries, obtaining feed for laying hens and other substances with high added value, that are useful in the agricultural and food sector. An interdisciplinary team of entomologists, food chemists, microbiologists and technologists, animal husbandry specialists, agronomists, engineers and social scientists is working to provide inputs on the industrial feasibility of a new value chain.
