Delivering on the success of the digital transformation of the agri-food sector in Ireland and the UK

This Regional Cluster (RC) will act as a one-stop-shop for farmers, advisors, technology providers and agri-food companies who want to avail of technology solutions from across Europe to farming as well as business problems.

It plays a central role in the digital transformation of the agriculture sector in Europe. However, despite the overwhelming interest of tech companies, investors and policymakers, the adoption rate of digital agriculture is still limited and the current impact of digitisation below its true potential.

Hence, this RC tries to bring the ICT sector and farming community together to generate a wave of bottom-up digital innovations while linking other initiatives of the SmartAgriHubs project in a pan-European network of interconnected Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs). An objective achieved by the combination of ICT expertise and the facilitated access to agricultural technologies for farmers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and agri-food organisation on a local, regional and global level. The RC’s ecosystem includes two Flagship Innovation Experiments (FIEs) fully dedicated to sustainability. One focuses on animal welfare indicators alongside water and energy consumption while ensuring end-user engagement. The other one provides a sustainability tool for remote assessment and management of farmland.
