Adopting Digital Technologies by Farmers
Improving the technology adoption on farms by assisting end-users in identifying optimal production processes enabled by digital technologies.
Digital technologies offer great possibilities to improve agriculture’s cost and resource efficiency, whilst reducing its environmental impact. To ensure farmers’ diverse requirements are met by the functionalities of innovations, this Flagship Innovation Experiment (FIE) bridges the existing gap between farmers and developers by enhancing the technology adoption on farm-level. The participating stakeholders therefore receive support in identifying services with a user-centered design approach to consequently optimise their production processes. Further priorities are the implementation of relevant data in the daily farm management system and providing the required knowledge to fully obtain the benefits of each digital technology.
The FIE focuses on technologies aimed at the sustainable intensification of livestock and arable farming. The prior concerns digital camera solutions to weigh animals automatically, delivering consistent and accurate results. The latter regards digital upgrades of existing farm machinery and implements for precision agriculture. With its holistic approach, this FIE also ensures agricultural advisors’ contribution to the adoption of digital technologies.
